FAMILIAL MESIAL TEMPORAL LOBE EPILEPSY (FMTLE)

  • Familial focal epilepsy with variable foci (FFEVF): FMTLE is distinguished by all individuals in the family having seizures with mesial temporal lobe features.
  • Epilepsy due to sporadic temporal structural brain abnormality - a family history will not be present.
  • Physiological déjà vu: this is distinguished by its typically mild and fleeting nature, and by infrequent random occurrence (e.g. yearly or less). Clustering of the déjà vu is not seen. It is often precipitated by specific circumstances (e.g., visiting a new place, performing specific actions).
