Awareness during a seizure is defined as the patient being fully aware of themself and their environment throughout the seizure, even if immobile. If awareness is preserved, the seizure is a focal aware seizure. Previously this seizure type was known as a 'simple partial seizure'. The seizure may also be classified using other motor or non-motor onset features, for example it might be a focal aware sensory seizure, or a focal aware motor seizure.
