FEBRILE INFECTION-RELATED EPILEPSY SYNDROME (FIRES)

Background

Focal, multifocal or generalized slowing is seen.

Interictal

Epileptiform abnormalities are seen and may be focal, multifocal or generalized.
An extreme delta brush pattern may be seen in frontal or central regions, with rhythmic 1-3Hz delta activity with superimposed beta activity.

Ictal

The ictal pattern is typically low to moderate amplitude rhythmic 10Hz spikes and spike-wave complexes. Seizure burden is high and seizures arise from multiple areas of both hemispheres, commonly from temporal and frontal areas.
