FEBRILE INFECTION-RELATED EPILEPSY SYNDROME (FIRES)

Background

Focal, multifocal or generalized slowing is seen.

Interictal

  • Epileptiform abnormalities are seen and may be focal, multifocal or generalized.
  • An extreme delta brush pattern may be seen in frontal or central regions, with rhythmic 1-3Hz delta activity with superimposed beta activity.

Ictal

The ictal pattern is typically low to moderate amplitude rhythmic 10Hz spikes and spike-wave complexes. Seizure burden is high and seizures arise from multiple areas of both hemispheres, commonly from temporal and frontal areas.
