SELF-LIMITED (FAMILIAL) NEONATAL EPILEPSY (SeLNE)

Mandatory seizures

Focal motor seizures with tonic or clonic features occur and can alternate sides from seizure to seizure. Seizures are brief but cluster of over hours or days, with the neonate behaving normally between seizures.

May have

  • Focal motor (automatism) seizures
  • Sequential seizures
  • Autonomic features, such as apnoea and cyanosis, commonly accompany seizures (seen in one third of seizures)
  • Focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures
