GENETICS

PATTERN OF INHERITANCE

The pattern of inheritance depends on the gene abnormality. LIS1 is typically an acquired gene abnormality. DCX is inherited in an X-linked pattern.

KNOWN GENES

DCX - accounts for most cases of subcortical band heterotopia, with the heterotopia being bilateral, symmetric and anterior predominant, with a female predominance.
LIS1 - posterior predominant subcortical band heterotopia
