EPILEPSY OF INFANCY WITH MIGRATING FOCAL SEIZURES (EIMFS)

Mandatory seizures

Focal motor seizures (clonic or tonic) are mandatory for this syndrome. They are initially infrequent and then become very frequent. Clinical or EEG evidence of seizure migration is required for this syndrome. Clinical evidence of migration can include that a seizure initially commences with unilateral focal motor features and during the seizure, this abates and there is instead contralateral focal motor seizure activity.

May have

  • Focal behavior arrest seizures with or without head or eye version, with prominent autonomic features
  • Epileptic spasms, are rarely reported
  • Status epilepticus
  • Exclusionary

  • Myoclonic seizures
